Spring Awakening

May 10, 2011

I can’t remember a time in my life where being around  flowers and spending time in a garden wasn’t a part of welcoming Spring. My mom has been an avid gardener for as long as I can remember and needless to say, I’ve spent many afternoons wandering around nurseries for flowers when I was growing up.

Yesterday afternoon I spent some time outside enjoying the absolutely perfect weather while taking pictures around the garden. Our tree peony finally opened over the weekend and the picture speaks for itself in telling how beautiful the flower is.

When I was a little girl I used to love to take Bleeding Heart flowers like the ones pictures above and open them up. I love how delicately they hang and how intricate their structure is from up close.

Unless you’re really paying attention, it isn’t hard to walk right by the tiny Lily of the Valley plants spotted near our shed. They’ve always reminded me of a baby’s bonnet and their light cream/pink coloring makes it look even more delicate.

Believe it or not, this is actually a tree. I love the flowers on this Dogwood. The burst of pink makes for a pleasant surprise amongst the other trees.
